Ceiling fan box

I ran into a plastic electrical box that is rated for a ceiling fan. Ran into this several times in my electrical career.

The problem is that this box has 8-32 screws. I tried using 10-24 and 10-32 screws. No luck. Wouldn't fit. Was not going to force them.

This house was built in 2001.

I don't feel comfortable using 8-32 screws for a ceiling fan.

The inside of the box was all painted (imagine that!) so I tried to wait most of the stuff out with a damp cloth. I couldn't make heads or tails out of any of the embossed writing up in the box. I did see the "ceiling fan sticker".

Will not let me upload pictures on my phone. When I get home, I can upload them.

If y'all want to PM me, I could probably send you the pictures

It is a lesser weight rating than most fan supports.
35 lbs.

This.

To the OP: you can honestly tell the customer that this _is_ a 'fan box', but that it is rated for less than a metal fan box, and that you are not comfortable using it unless the fan is very small/light weight. There are some very light weight ceiling fans out there.

Here is an example of a metal box, rated (in the US) for 70lb fans. (Only rated for 50lb fans in Canada, I guess they use bigger pounds):
