I need to replace a ceiling fan in a mobile home. It is mounted to a standard metal 3/0 box.

In a house, I would cut the 3/0 out of the ceiling and retrofit an old work fan box.

Does any one know if a fan box would fit? It is much deeper and has the bar hanger to fit as well. Once I sawzall the existing box out, I'm scr***d if the fan box won't fit.

I would decline the job, but it is for my largest customer.

i guess you're wondering about space above the box? all the MH's i've dealt with have at least 6"-10" above the ceiling before the roof, depending on how close you are to the edge. you should be okay.

Some Mobile Homes have a piece of plywood in the ceiling that the box is installed in or on. Some have a 2 x 2 across the joist that the box is fastened to. Otherwise you should have plenty of clearance although depending on the age of the mobile you may find all the ceiling wire is UF. I have run into that on some older ones.

In a mobile i would not count on any standards.Use a pancake that is fan rated.Mounting it might be a pain.

Hold the box up with all thread, clear through the roof, with nuts on the top side. Plenty of silicone to keep the rain out. Sturdy as hell.

Yep! It also helps to keep the roof secure when one of them "torenadders" comes through!!:D
