I'm not an electrician, first off. Anyway, I have an old ceiling fan from the '70s or '80s that takes a standard light bulb (A19), which can be turned on with a wall switch. The fan isn't very tightly sealed, so I never use it because it wobbles. I just use the light. The bulb in there as of now is a low-watt CFL. When turned on, the unit above gets very hot...so I'm concerned about the heat affecting the floorboards above it, or the ceiling. Is it normal for this to happen? If not, is it the bulb or the age of fan (that is, how they were made years ago)?
