As long as the M in MSG isn't for Mercury it's all OK. Especially if it comes in a "Green" box that means it's good for the environment. There is probably more mercury in a good size fish then in a CFL.

I heard many years ago T-12 floresents were to be phased out, but they kept pushing the date back. I think that was at least 10 years ago. There is still a lot of T12 fixtures in use today. Still see some fixtures today for sale that uses them.

I'm pretty sure magnetic ballasts are now a thing of the past. I'm seeing a lot of electronic T12 ballasts these days..
MSG = Mono Sodium Glutenate
I was very bad..I simply broke the twist tube of a CFL off in a trashcan, so I could dissect the base and see the electronics.
Pretty well made actually, and though the lamp was at end-of-life, there was no charred electronics.
Bulb was Sylvania 13w standard base.
And yes, I too have seen the cand base CFL's and they are indeed ugly.

MSG is mono sodium glutamate. You think it's not bad? All you're worried about is mercury? You must be joking. Look into what it's all about and what it's linked to and how many foods it's added to and get back to me.
It amazes me that so many people would think that There is a single person on the face of the earth that doesn't know what MSG is, People were whining about MSG before you were born.:grin::grin::grin:

candelabra base CFL's are readily available here.
the only thing i haven't been able to find is one as small as a "nightlight" bulb. I've need some to put in the top of those ceiling fans that have nightlights on the top of the housing.

There is an LED candle base lamp available. They say it cost .25 cents a year to run.
