Depends on what you mean by "piece" and by "deforming." I can take a foot long section of 3/4" EMT and cut a "piece" in the shape of a cube that is 1 millimeter per side. I'm pretty sure that can fit inside a 1/2" EMT. :D ;)
 
It also depends on what you mean by ?inside.? We bend conduit all the time, and nobody would call that ?deforming? the conduit. I can take an eight foot long section of 1/2" EMT, give it four 90 degree bends, turning it into a circle with a radius just over one foot. Then all I need do is to stick the length of 3/4" into the center of the circle.;) :D

A peice would be say 1 foot long, by deforming, you can't take a hammer and

beat it into a smaller shape than the original shape. I don't know if I can give

a clue that won't give it away. What you do with the 1 foot peice, well----
 
If I slide the ?" inside the ?", the cross section of the ?" that coincides with the ?" is "inside" the ?".

That's a little thin. . .I know, but that's what occurs to me.
 
When I store conduit on my truck I place the 3/4 inside the 1 inch and the 1/2 inch inside the 3/4 it takes up less room that way I also store my all- thread inside the 1/2 inch now then the PVC conduit I cannot store anything useful inside the 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch but insde the 1 inch I can place the 1/2 inch emt or PVC or a stick or two of wiremold.
 
The question never specified what type of 1/2"

Will 3/4" EMT fit inside a piece of 1/2" rigid? I NEVER use 1/2" rigid or I would go check before I posted this.
 
How far in do you have to put it/
if i take the two ends of the two sizes and place them end to end and then cant one of them abit, i can get a tiny portion of the circumference of the end of the 3/4 into the opening of the 1/2...cant i?

Half inch what? Half inch plywood? Sure, drill a hole in the plywood and pass the 3/4 EMT on through. Half inch drywall? Same procedure. "Half inch" is also slang for certain paper pistol targets with half inch deviations. I'm pretty sure I could put a piece of EMT through that paper.

The reason a man hole cover is round is because a circle will not fit in a smaller circle. A square or rectangle will ( cover drop on head ).

I'm sure that like all bar bets there is a trick here somewhere. It eludes me.
If you can do it you will win a lot of beers with this one. I would buy a beer to see it done.

your clue helped. Cut a long diagonal cut in the 1/2'' then cut a thin straight cut in the 3/4'' you will be able to fit 3/4'' round piece through the oblong 1/2'' piece.
 
Cut a length of 3/4" in half, the long way, like a hot-dog bun. Then cut one of the halves in half, lengthwise again, ending up with 1/4th of the original circumference.

(Picture 1/4th of a pie.)

Now just slide this "piece" of 3/4" EMT inside a length of 1/2" EMT. Room to spare.
