a give conductor size (unless its a compact conductor) is the size that it is, and nothing else (chap 9 table 8, for example, shows the size of each conduter by awg, and gives you the conductivity of the conductor for al and for cu) this has nothing to do with chapter 5, it is how conductors are sized regardless of the material used.

You may be referencing Tables 5 and 5A in Chapter 9. It does list sq inches bt wire size, and, in that reagrd, yes, a #8 (or any other size)(conductor is the same in Cu and AL
