Re: Chared 14/2 NM

I find that the $10 fixtures somehow pass the ul listing with 60 w bulbs, when over a long period of time the insulation breaks down from the heat. The surface mount cieling kitchen lights, which tend to be on longer seem to show the most damage. My opinion from replacing a lot of them, not always sure that the bulbs were always correct of course.

If all these problems are from heat convecting up the wire how do you avoid this? Also what can you do when a customer wants afixture hung in a older home and the tag on the fixture says "miniuim supply conductors 90c, homes built before 1980something have wires of 60c" That is not a direct qoute but most fixtures I run across say something to that affect. I am always worried about this sometimes I will under lamp to help correct the problem but the homeowner will put in whatever they want when I leave. what is the solution to the 60c wire problem. I know 70s and older houses dont all have the original fixtures
