When it comes to labor units, 1/2 of the unit is supposed to be the actual install, the other 1/2 for what it took to get there. I may be wrong but that doesn’t include drive time.

I can see this works when bidding a job.

I have tried some flat rate programs (law of averages). Some people don’t have an issue others do. Everyone knows what it’s going to cost before hand.

In using these programs, some rates seem a little inflated, I may be wrong. If every potential job worked out, one would do fairly well.

Some tasks seem low.

Anyhow, without really doing T&M, and using the labor unit for service work, if historically you know a certain job has generally taken from tools on to tools off, is this time covering the entirety of a labor unit?

And sometimes this involves the customer pulling your ear.
