Anybody know if an elevator needs to be backed-up for Chicago? Is it only required for high rise applications???.... I remember about a couple of years ago that any building four stories or higher require the elevator to be backed-up by a generator, but it was removed as a requirment and not required anymore.. Anybody can confirm this?? Thanks guys

Chicago Code Chapter 13-76 'High-Rise Buildings' applies to building 80' high and over. It does require at least one elevator for Fire Department use, with generator backup. The generator can be natural gas or diesel powered if the building is up to 400' tall, over that it must be diesel powered.
