People used to attach their TV antennas (remember them?) to the chimney.
And when some chimneys crumbled under the antennas, some communities banned antennas on chimneys. Should have insisted on stronger chimneys!

Old brick chimney yes, I don't know I would use the part above the roof for horizontal loading of a service drop though.
