China Controls Your Solar

Long article describes Trojan telemetry found in most inverters, which can shut down power at will.

I don't see the claim in this article that Trojan telemetry is found in most inverters. Not doubting that this is not going on with some products, but this article is very vague on details. Hopefully there will be more clarity on which manufacturers are exposed to this risk.

It seems like whoever uncovered this is not giving any details. It will be interesting if more details come out.

I read a similar article but it indicated only a few had been found. No detail as to Mfg or where they had been installed, if they had. Missing a bit of credibility without some details.

Personally, I don't doubt they are there in about any product we get from China. (Maybe not that Teflon coated frying pan.)

I very much doubt that large non-Chinese companies in the US inverter market (SMA, Solaredge, Enphase) are letting this happen to their inverters or would be unable to catch it if it were, even to the extent that they employ Chinese manufacturers, which to a significant extent they don't. The 'predominantly made in China' language is thus misleading to that extent. Not that there haven't been a handful of chinese companies that have had some success particularly in the commercial inverter market here.

They claim it’s cellular connectivity, but I think it would be a lot easier to just use the Ethernet connection with backdoor software through the internet.
Some inverters indeed have cellular connectivity, at least as an option, that is used for system monitoring.
