I have been tasked with the job of hanging christmas lites for a brand new building. I have been given a time limit and above all have been told that this needs to look great. I first need to order the lights, but am not sure on how many strings per tree to order. Does anybody have a rule of thumb method or any method for that matter for determining lengths and quantities. As I said this is a new building and I have nothing to build on from experience.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Re: Christmas lights

Go to Google. Type in holiday lighting or christmas tree lighting. You will probably get about 20,0000,000 pages to scan through ;)

I went to Google and typed in Holiday lighting ... 11,900,000 pages in .31 seconds - thats almost as fast as I could do it.

Christmas tree lighting only resulted in a little more than 3,000,000 sites ...HO HUM

Re: Christmas lights

I would have to say that there is no precise measurement for how many lights you are going to be needing considering each tree is different, some will have alot of branches, some will only have a few, some of the branches will be thick, and some will be small. For example, a tree in our front yard, I wrapped about 20' high, and it took 1200 lights. I was wrapping very tightly, there were alot of branches. If all the trees are a modest size 15'-20' I would say guess between 600-1000 lights per tree. Keep in mind that you can also just wire tie the strings directly to the branches, and save alot of time, use fewer lights. Also, don't try and hit every branch, just do a few big ones, but go down to the very end, and follow off some of the smaller branches too.
