The term cinder fill must be before my time. Could someone explain to me this term, as used in several section of the code. 342.10(c), 344.10(c), 348.12(3), and 352.10

Re: Cinder fill

Well youngsters, the cinders are what is left below the firebox after the coal is burned. I had to carry them out to the alley for the trash men to pick up when I was a mere child. Clinkers are really big cinders that would not fall between the grates. At one time, cinders were used as aggregate instead of gravel to make cinder block for construction.

Has anyone else carry cinders to the alley or curb? :D

Re: Cinder fill

"Cinder fill" is where the land was built up or filled using the cinderes from coal burning furnaces. When cinders get wet, an acid is formed that will destory raceways. cinders were also used in some types of light weight concrete and some types of mansoary blocks.
