There are two buildings each with a service. One building has a generator, and we would like to back-up some equipment in the other building. Is this permissible? What code articles cover this? 225? 230?

Owner wants to install branch circuits from the building with generator to the other building to back up telephone equipment.

From the `08 NEC, Article 445.19: "A single generator supplying more than
one load, or multiple generators operating in parallel, shall be permitted to
supply either of the following:
(1) A vertical switchboard with separate
sections, or
(2) Individual enclosures with overcurrent protection tapped
from a single feeder for load separation and distribution."

Take a look at 225.30(a)(4).
