Hello Everybody,

I am looking at buying one of the following circuit tracers. Amprobe CT326B or the Greenlee 2011. Does anyone have any experience with either. Any recomendations would be appreciated. These things aren't cheap and I want to get the best one. I'm leaning towards the Amprobe because it has the capability of locating wires up to 13 feet underground, not sure if the Greenlee does. Thanks for any input.

I have the Amprobe AT-2005 kit. It wasn't cheap ($909 + tax), but it's a very handy tool to have for troubleshooting. I've used it for all kinds of tracing, including finding broken wires underground.

Amprobe's customer service is pretty good, too. When my transmitter unit stopped working, they gave me their UPS number to overnight it to their facility, and they fixed and shipped it back to me in about a week.

Never worked with the CT-326B or the Greenlee. Several people have posted about the Greenlee here, and opinions were strong and mixed. No one has said anything bad about the Amprobe as far as I've seen.

I use the Greenlee 2011 with very good results.
At almost half the price of the Amprobe it's a no brainer.

13' underground? Don't believe every thing in the sales pitch.
The Amprobe is a good unit also.

The Greenlee has only one transmitter that can be connected on powered and unpowered circuits unlike the Amprobe that uses seperate transmitters.

I also have an Ideal SureTest 956, which cost about $540. It's also a good tool, but it's not quite as "fine-tunable" as the Amprobe. I only bought it when the Amprobe was in for service and needed a tracer immediately.

Yeah, I'd have a hard time swallowing that one without seeing it myself. Besides, when do you ever deal with wiring buried that deep?

Very true. I carry a set of fuses with the Amprobe for the times I'm using the transmitter on a dead wire and forget to disconnect it before energizing. :D

We use the Ideal Sure Test Circuit Tracer Kit. It comes with the TR-958 transmitter and RC-958 receiver. It is the balls. Lotta money to buy though. I don't know exactly how much, the shop bought it. We tried the greenlee, but this one seems better. The transmitter doesn't time out and shut off automatically like the Greenlee did. That feature on the Greenlee was annoying when it shut off while you were in the middle of a trace.

Alright you convinced me.....The AT-2005 kit it is. I just placed the order.

Thanks Jeff and thanks to everyone else that chimed in.
