Circuits passing through a panel

We are wiring a restaurant and the owner has added so much that we had to add a subpanel. All of the homerun conduits come up through the floor to the main panel, if we nipple the sub panel to the main panel, can some of the home runs be passed though with the sub panel feeders and then terminate in the subpanel? FYI, the main panel has the ampacity for the additional load, and the conduits are sized correct.

The NEC does permit conductors feeding through to other enclosures if adequate space is provided per Section 312.8. :)

I agree with Bryan, however, in my area (NYC) when you start talking about gutter space it allows the inspector more latitude to snag you.

I had a similar situation to the one you described, which worked very well in my case. I lifted the main panel up about 6" and installed a through with the applicable gutter space. All my bottom conduits went in easily and nippled up to the main encl. and to the side of the sub-panel. A little extra effort, but in my case well worth it. Result: A clean look with more than adequate space.
