Clarification on pendant control wiring

It looks like the red is the common, which is connected to the black when at rest (center), to the green when in 'forward', and to the white when in 'reverse.'

Looking at that photo of your 2-button pendant, your guess about the red being common (+V) and black being ground makes sense as a starting point, but it’s best to double-check because wiring color codes can vary by manufacturer.

Typically, for a 2-button pendant (like for hoists or lifts), the red wire is often the common positive or supply voltage line, and the black wires could be signal lines or ground, but sometimes black is used for live lines too.

In your pic, since it’s a 2-button setup, each button probably switches the common line to one of the other wires to control direction (up/down). So the wiring could be something like:

  • Red: Common positive (+V)
  • Black (or black and another color): Switch lines for each button going to the control unit

The best way to be 100% sure is to check the pendant’s wiring diagram or manual, or if not available, test continuity with a multimeter between buttons and wires while pressing the buttons. That will tell you which wire is common and which ones correspond to the buttons.

If you want, I can help guide you on how to safely test that with a meter or find typical wiring schematics for your pendant model.
