Class two plug in transformer

Are these UL listed transformers intended to be plugged in forever? Is one type AC or DC considered safer or more reliable than the other.
 
Are you referring to a "wall wart?" Plug-in xformers are routinely used for equipment that is meant to be powered continuously.

AC or DC just depends on what the powered device needs. One could argue that the AC would be more reliable as it does not need the extra diodes to convert to DC.

Semantically, forever is a really long time. I prefer permanent as a description of how long I'll leave the wall wart, especially if it has the mounting flange to fix it to the receptacle yoke.
