I have been asked to install wiring for what we'll call an oil "room". The install consists of several 4x4 boxes with duplexes and several lighting fixtures. The reason I use the word "room" lightly is that it's not really so much a room as a fenced off are inside a larger room. Buildup of gases is not an issue. None of the liquids in the room meet the required of Art.100 definition of Volatile Flammable Liquid.
Is this a classified location?

Re: Classified or not?

Anyone care to comment on how OSHA would view the electrical requirements of this "room"?

Re: Classified or not?

FedOSHA's 29CFR1910 Section 307 with reference to Section 399 use essentially the same basic rules as NEC Articles 500 and 501.

The definitions for Classes and Divisions have remained virtually unchanged since Part 1910 was first introduced. There have been a few minor revisions for the definitions for Groups and FedOSHA technically doesn't recognize "Zones."

"State and local" issues are difficult to discuss here; but, unless there is something undisclosed in the original post, there is no reason to classify the location based on the information provided.
