Question article 110 dedicated space above panel or switchboards over the years has this ever changed in the code I see 6 foot or to the structural ceiling which ever is lower .
We had a design team today question this clear space rule so what iam asking is has any year code ever changed this rule ever. Now don't go back to 1965 but lets say 2008 till now .

Only clarifications to 110.26(F)

2008
(3) Height of Working Space. The work space shall be clear and extend from the grade, floor, or platform to the height required by 110.26(E). Within the height requirements of this section, other equipment that is associated with the electrical installation and is located above or below the electrical equipment shall be permitted to extend not more than 150 mm (6 in.) beyond the front of the electrical equipment

Thanks Greg one question clear space above any switchboard or panel board anything other then electrical related meaning dedicated space above panels . Can any other system like mechanical pipe or duct work not electrical related for that SWB or PNL be directly above a panel or switchboard like duct work or plumbing running directly over switchboard or panel and at what point or height would this be acceptable . I see dedicated space as 110.24 the footprint of switchboard and 6 ft above that switchboard
but after that 6 foot you can run other systems over that SWB or panel . yes /no

Gregg your quoted sections are for working space.

110.26(E) contains the dedicated equipment space requirements, and the six feet would be from the top of the equipment in question not the floor level, but also extends down to the floor level. If the structural ceiling is less than six feet above the equipment then this space ends at the ceiling.

In a space with pretty high ceilings this means the dedicated space stops six feet above the equipment and there is no restriction of what may be located there. However if something that can drip onto the equipment should be installed there then drip protection will be necessary but that can be done in many different ways including use of equipment rated for the purpose (like N3R, or N4 - N12 enclosures).

Thanks for the input I see 6 feet is the rule after that anything can be over that space .

I have several sprinkler pipes and detain pipes about two feet above several panels in the electric room building. My inspector is making them bulkhead then put with a pan under them at a minimum
