I had to look up "hay mow." I thought it was slang for hay mound, didn't realize the hay elevator door had a name until now.:grin:

We used hay elevators like you describe up until a few years ago. Quite often we'd climb the elevator to get up into the hay mound rather than use the ladder. Just something to keep in mind in case bales aren't the only thing going through the hole.
