Re: closet lights

Will try to get info monday .I am sure if it got listed it was to replace the normal bulbs.Would like to be able to recommend them to home buyers ,but only if in so doing I'm not leaving myself open for a problem. That shower light could now maybe get a 100 watt equivalent at about 25 watts. They are in all of our lamps and fixtures that they fit.As to lowering my $200 a month poco bill ,i dought it will be noticed.Has anyone used these on AFCI circuits ? Could they trip ?

Re: closet lights

Jim I have a 1050 Sq. Ft. Trailer and when I first moved in the Gas&Electric was over $250.00 a month. After a few bills like that I decided to attack the problem head on. Out went the electric stove, dryer, hot water heater, and all the incandescent bulbs, in went gas stove, gas dryer, and all new compact florescent bulbs, and a new ul listed for trailer use tank less hot water heater. I also installed new windows Low-E inside and out 4 panes all together. this with the 6" outside walls makes for a very efficient trailer. Now my bill is at the highest $40 to $45 a month, and I haven't changed a bulb in 3 years.

One-way switch = a switch that can be turned on but can't seem to get turned off LOL :D
Had a few of them but after I kicked the room mates out they seem to work just fine. Imagine that LOl :p

I've used quite a few on AFCI branches ranging from the 9W(40W equiv) up to the 24W(100W equiv) - no trips so far. Definately the way to go with outdoor floods up high that need a ladder to change :D

A friend who has a two story place (about 4,000 sq/ft total with a lot of lighting) put them in everywhere and saw about a $40 difference in the monthly power bill.

Re: closet lights

If all they do is last longer they are worth it to me.At one project i wired a covered old fashion bridge (over dry land)it was the entry to upscale gated comunity. There were about 30 light fixtures with incandescents. The only way about half of them could be reached is with a lift, bucket truck wont likely have enough room to do it.They could have used these flo jobs. They are on photo cell ,how long will they last at 12 hours a day? This bridge cost over $100,000 and got cheap over bulbs.

Re: closet lights

I put in a few CF floods on an eye at the homestead when the floods first came out. None have failed yet. Some are probably close to 2 years old now - all require a ladder to change I'm happy :D

Read the instructions that come with the eyes though! They'll give a max incandescent rating and a ballasted rating which will be lower. I've heard of cases where heavily loaded eyes burned out quick when CF's are used. Load'em lightly. I'd take the rating and halve it just to be safe. An extra eye is cheap compared to the PITA of dragging ladders through the snow in the winter...

Re: closet lights

Talked with the reps about these fluorescent bulbs. The ones i bought were tested to replace standard incandescent in inclosed fixtures. Was told if i call tuesday and talk to tech department i probably could get a copy of the test.Web page of mfg is WWW.TCPI.COM

Re: closet lights

Jim, these lamps are definitely suspect of being bogus.

They've had two different names and addresses in two days.

I looked in my 2002 Phillips catalog today, and found some CF's are specifically noted to not be installed in enclosed fixtures, some noted reduced life in enclosed fixtures, and some simply did not mention enclosed fixtures at all.

Re: closet lights

Well they were packaged for big orange. Will feel better when i see some actual test results. It's easy to get a UL listing for the bulb but as to what it's listed for is another issue.Exstention cords get UL but package must state for indoors use if it wasn't tested for outdoors .From what the man told me some are out there that did not get tested or failed when tested in inclosed fixtures
