More Inspector follies - Inspector say coated J-nails not approved for support of NM feeder cable - that they are only approved for use on conduit. What say you? Why? Why not?
benaround said:IMO, A staple can put to much pressure on the cable as well, I think the
j-nail is a ' similar fitting'.
similar fittings designed and installed so as not to damage the cable
e57 said:In this same conversation - would you think a 9/16 staple with the same sized 1/0 copper SEC/NM* cable ZIP-TIED to it be an approved use????
And yes - what about a strap of NM sheath tied in a bow?
String? Rope?
Do straps and supports need to be listed????? Approved even????
*Both list the same support means.

mdshunk said:I use drive straps from time to time to hang large cables. They work great for that. As far as I'm concerned, I don't care if you tie it up with little ribbon bows. If it works, it works. The mere existence of hangers and straps specially designed for this application does not, in and of itself, necessitate their use by any means.

I'll find a code reference for you later.
Yeah, best of luck with that. While you're at it, find me some listed screws to hold up my jiffy clips.alfiesauce said:Straps must be listed for use as a strap for a specific purpose.

Lets say yes....acrwc10 said:Yes to the 9/16th staple and zip tie, as long as it is a reasonable size zip tie.
Is this the same inspector (lets call him Mr. Not Nice) that dinged you on the basin receptacle ?

I have heard of inspectors calling guys on using improper sized nm straps for 3 or 4 cables before.iwire said:Good luck with that.
Beyond 110.3(B) I don't believe you will find any.mdshunk said:Yeah, best of luck with that. While you're at it, find me some listed screws to hold up my jiffy clips.
