Coated J-nails supporting 1/0 - 3 NM

More Inspector follies - Inspector say coated J-nails not approved for support of NM feeder cable - that they are only approved for use on conduit. What say you? Why? Why not?

I've never heard of 1/0-3 NM cable...do you mean SER cable?

I do not think it is cheezy at all. How much pressure may the Jhook/nail put on one spot along the cable? There are fasteners designed for the purpose, and they are readily available.

IMO, A staple can put to much pressure on the cable as well, I think the

j-nail is a ' similar fitting'.

I use drive straps from time to time to hang large cables. They work great for that. As far as I'm concerned, I don't care if you tie it up with little ribbon bows. If it works, it works. The mere existence of hangers and straps specially designed for this application does not, in and of itself, necessitate their use by any means.

And yes - what about a strap of NM sheath tied in a bow?

Do straps and supports need to be listed????? Approved even????

Yes to the 9/16th staple and zip tie, as long as it is a reasonable size zip tie.
Is this the same inspector (lets call him Mr. Not Nice) that dinged you on the basin receptacle ?

On my jobs ,if it doesn't fit in a "King" staple, it gets a nail.

theres a lot of service cable that was supported with J nails, that has been on peoples houses for many, many years with no problems, I didn't know anybody still used J nails.
