Code and Range Hood

I designed plans for renovation of existing building kitchens, including addition of range hoods (did not exist prior).

During pre-bid meeting we discussed bringing electric to this range hood via cabinetry. Contractors agreed this was viable solution at the time.

Contractor now says this is not to code and that we will need a dedicated fuse for range hood, meaning we will need to run electric through existing plaster walls.

Any insight would be really helpful...I did not think we needed dedicated fuse. If we do, any other ideas on how to do so without getting in to walls?

A range hood does not need a dedicated circuit unless you install the hood with cord and plug. If the hood is direct wired then no dedicated circuit is required.

I am assuming you are talking resi type range hoods and not large motors for commercial kitchens.
