I have never run into this situation as of yet. I need to run a sub feed to an old fuse panel so I can upgrade to breaker panel board. No problem in theory. 60 amp sub panel for lighting and receptacles. I would like to know if it would be acceptable to run a 50 foot length of #6/3 NM with Ground to a sub panel over finished basement ceiling to first floor? This is how the original one was wired back in the day, however the system is not grounded and I really want to replace the old fraid cable since they are switching the fuse panel to a modern breaker panel. I am concerned about not securing the cable over the ceiling though. I do not know if this would be a violation in this situation on both levels, length and securing. I would much rather run conduit and THHN, but that would mean more damage to the finished basement ceiling.
Thank you in advance.
