COLD WATER BOND

I understand that the NEC allows a cold water bond to a sub-panel as long as the sub-panel is not more than 6 feet from the bonding location. Otherwise , the bond must go to the main panel.
Am I understanding this code correctly ? and /or does anyone know differently

A sub-panel has to have a EGC ran with the un-grounded and grounded circuit conductors listed in 250.118.

The cold water pipe is used as a ground electrode at the service and must be within 5 feet of the entrance to the building.

You can certainly supplement a sub-panel gound with a bond to the cold water pipe, but it cannot be used in place of a EGC listed in 250.118

Your question seems a bit vague to me. Are you by any chance refering to a seperate structure's subpanel, being fed from another building?

Or, are you talking about the point of connection for the other end of the bonding conductor for the metal water piping? 250.104(A)(1) requires that to be the service equipment enclosure, the grounded conductor at the service, the grounding electrode conductor, or one of the grounding electrodes. No mention there of a subpanel.
