Cold water pipe bonding

The existing cold water pipe to the house is plastic The service is grounded to building steel sized to the conductors and a ground rod #6 When i bond the cold water pipe do I need to run back to the meter location 5' of entrance or just jump the meter and hit the cold water at the nearest location of the service

What do you intend to bond at the UG water pipe, plastic? If the inside piping is copper, then you may bond them (hot and cold if they aren't sweated together) at any accessible point.

I wanted to make sure that I am not required to go to the water meter (5' of entrance)

If the water service is plastic, you may bond the metal piping antwhere since this pipe does not qualify as an electrode.
