..had one file law suit claiming they did not owe that much, and I ended up with interest on my money..

I guess they were right...
Nothing wrong with being right, eh?

I ask if I could get reimbursed for legal expenses and was told to file another claim..I  and left the room..still does not make up for the complete losses but oh well price of doing business..You learn to charge enough to make up for the rotten ones..I guess my most memorable one was a young lady came in one afternoon and ask If I could do some work and said she was unable to pay me for it upfront and ask if she could make payments..had her describe what she wanted and afterwords ask what she could afford to pay and make the payments regular she said 10 dollars a payday..she never missed a payment..helped her out couple of times turned out to be good customer..single mom with four kids..

Try making a sign that says "Please Mr. XXX, pay me the money you owe me!" and park in front of his house during the time he and his neighbors leave and come home from work. I almost guarantee that he will call you to discuss making a payment.

I'm thinking about doing this to someome that called me out at 11 pm for a loss of power, which turned out to be a bad meter base, and since it was a utility problem that I couldn't fix, did not want to pay me the measly $298 for the call and diagnosis.

Or file a restraining order.

LAWYER! Is the only answer. You need a lawyer that knows how to get money out of deadbeat customers. Keeps you from doing something illegal and gets your money. Now or later..

This one EC I worked with didn't even sweat it. They just had their lawyer take care of it. Seems like most of the bills were paid. Your time is better spent on the next job. Let a pro(your lawyer) do his job.

NO, that is not the only answer. Lawyers are the last answer, to be used when you have given up and are ready for the vultures to come pick the carcass clean... and hope its the other guy's carcass and not yours.

Lawyers are parasites to be used as a last resort.
