Re: color coding for conductors

It depends on what specific conductors you are asking about. Gnenerally, the requirements of 310.12 apply. However there are several sections that ammend this section including 110.15, 424.35, and 517.160....

Re: color coding for conductors

In addition to Bryan's list, 200.6, 400.22, and 400.23.

Re: color coding for conductors

Steven in conjunction with Bryan and Roger, color coding grounding, grounded and isolated trans.is NEC. However, I don't know the history of ex. 120/208 (black red blue) or 277/480 (brown orange yellow) I don't know if this is what You were asking or not re. ungrounded / phase conductors?

Re: color coding for conductors

What I am looking for is phase color coding of 120/208 & 277/480 volt systems.I just can't find it in the code book.

Steve,
What I am looking for is phase color coding of 120/208 & 277/480 volt systems.I just can't find it in the code book.
That is because there no rule that requires specific color coding for these systems. There are rules that require system identification, but not phase identification.

It doesn't exist.

Colors used for these systems are trade practices only, not a code requirement.

There used to be a color code for phase conductors of multiwire branch circuits in 210.5, but it was removed to a Fine Print Note in the 1971 NEC, and later dropped all together.

Re: color coding for conductors

Thank you Roger. The "phase taping" I mentioned above is pretty much standard from Fl. to In. sometimes I don't type what I want to say.
