Combo Hanger/cover/receptacle

I have been in the trade 20 odd years and remodeled my share of old schools. Never seen one of these before! Have you? Big middle school built in the late 1950s. It seems like a clever idea. Did it never catch on?
Just fun stuff to think about.

Yes, but the box is supported as required for a fan box by the structure.

And the box is not hanging there supported only by the conduit...

Yes, seen them and variations over the years.

Richmond is a very old city, and has examples of just about everything, including the ceiling construction.

This one (in the OP) seems to be. I only see three conduits. Two 1/2" and one 3/4" RGS, if I'm not mistaken.

Very true...
Although you have to admit, that rgs conduit holding that box...
I bet we could do pull ups on it and it wouldn’t budge..
