commercial kitchen ventilation hood

I know electrical equipment under a ventilation hood in a commercial kitchen must shut off when fire suppression equipment is activated. Is this in the NEC or in the fire code?
 
It's covered under NFPA96-(Standard for the Installation of Equipment for the Removal of Smoke and Grease-Laden Vapors from Commercial Kitchen Equipment).
