Commercial receptical installation exceptions

Hi folks. I have a question pertaining to a commercial installation adding a receptacle.

Is there an exception in the NEC that allows someone to use 12/3 wring between boxes when adding a recepticle to a counter in my store. The wiring will come down through thin wall conduit but I would like to use romex and connectors between the boxes above the suspended callings. Any help would be appreciated.

334.12(A)(2) doesn't have exceptions.

And if your drop ceiling is a plenum, you have other issues.

Correction, the drop ceiling may be an air-handling space, which requires the use of plenum rated wiring methods. A plenum is inside a duct.

Point taken, Tom. I was referring to the vernacular "plenum ceiling".

Romex is not allowed exposed in dropped or suspended ceilings in other than 1 & 2 family & multifamily dwellings. 334.12(A)(2)
