Re: Commercial Wiring

It depends on the construction type of the building or a particular part of a building. Wiring methods are permitted or excluded based on construction type, and not solely on the fact that it's a commercial use. All the wiring methods you mentioned are valid methods in commercial type structures, but it all depends on construction type. Annex E of the NEC goes into this a little. Learn a little more in 334.12

Re: Commercial Wiring

It's just a brick building that flooded during Katrina. The receptacles are for office use only and will be in sheetrock.

Re: Commercial Wiring

Yes, Mine and six others. I was an industrial maintenance electrician. I can make things work, but I need a little help to save a little money. The hurricane really hammered us.

Re: Commercial Wiring

Building codes are often stricter in high wind zones. I know that the counties near the coast here are. It is best to check with your local building dept.

Re: Commercial Wiring

It's EMT but romex would make it alot easier. And I have talked to them about doing it myself. It's just with the high volume of work going on around the city I can't get any answers. It looks like it's the same way here.

The forum has rules about DIY questions, that is how the man that pays the bills here wants it.

I will tell you as others have hinted at is that if it is EMT already it is unlikely that NM will now be acceptable.

The original electrician probably would have run NM if it was the type of construction that would allow it.

On the other hand MC can be run in place of EMT in most all applications.

Re: Commercial Wiring

I'm sorry if I wasn't supposed to submit this question. I didn't know. I have already replaced the EMT that was damaged. I just need to jump to another part of the wall from an existing EMT run.

Re: Commercial Wiring

Hire an electrician that way you can feel confident that all of your electrical is safe. Whos going to change your service out. Based on Ivans damage it will need to be replaced also.
