You can't do that.... The sledge has a name and it can't be undone. Percy is its proper name for Percy Sledge (When a man loves a women)

:D

Mine is called "Volendrung". ;)

(anyone that gets that name, I commend you for being a fan of earlier Bethesda Softworks releases).

Percy, Gertrude, Gurnsey, or Gruntilda are the only acceptable names for a sledgehammer... And perhaps Peter Gabriel.

Does the horizontal platform at knee level come into play with the 30" requirement? I've always looked at that as needing to be a clear area to stand.

My sledge is named Sluggo. There are no others like it but this one is mine.:happyyes:

Through all this, don't forget the UNDERLYING PURPOSE of the 36 inch clearance. To be able to work the panel, especially in emergency situations! I'd recommend not only calling it an electrical room....but keeping it an electrical room...even put in warning labels to keep the panels clear. I have a wide open unfinished basement, and I installed warning labels on the floor in front of my panels. As a reminder for myself, but also as notice to anyone with less electrical (or safety) acumen to not stack boxes or other clutter in that area.

That 36 inches isn't just a code to follow, it really does have a solid root in safety. And if it's in a "closet" where someone without electrical knowledge that we have here might (will) use as a closet for other stuff, it just makes sense to (at a minimum) adorn the closet with adequate warning labels to keep it clear. The signs are not code requirement for a residence, but it's a step I'd take in this instance. It might also be the threshold where the AHJ or inspector gives it a pass where they might otherwise not do so.

That was my question to in regards to the the platform

It is a violation. You need 30" of clearance for work space and 36" back from the panel (which you probably have).
If you remove the platform, you'll be okay.
The platform would be okay if it didn't go pass 6" from the wall but then it wouldn't be a platform, I would call it a shelve.

Just what is that platform for?
I thought it might be a stair landing and the picture just made it look like it protruded into the panel space.
It is In the stair case I made it instead of having wasted space in the staircase celling

Thor, that's the name of mine. No one could get Mjöllnir out correctly.

A good point.....

Years ago the chief was yelling at his token spark (your truly) to 'shut the d*mn juice off' while the demo of a 3rd story apt fire was being done. It took me a while to find the panel in the closet to do so......

So, working clearance 110.26 aside, it would seem we are always having to hide our best work in nooks and crannies to satisfy aesthtics w/o consdideration to emergency access

This is why i'm an advocate of meter/mains &/or outside disco's in the '20
