Hey all..

Im bidding on a 16 unit condo building. I've calcualted each individual unit, but before i size the service, how do i calculate the common areas; ie; hallways, parking garage, and elevator?

Same standard method form as the units?

Add up the nameplate ratings. I do not believe there are any available demand factors for the house loads.

I don't have any nameplates or other pertinent information, just a plan to bid off of.

There are heaters in the hallways also, so i don't want to guess..

Then your bid should include a description of the basis for the load calculation. Make an assumption for the heaters, as an example, and state that assumption. Include a statement to the effect that if the owner chooses to install more load than was accounted for in the load calculation, there will be an extra cost.

I don't know how well this concept works in the installation side of our industry. But it is a common and (I think) essential part of the engineering side.
