Does all wire concealed in wall need to be in conduit. In particular does low voltage wire or control wire eg cat5 that is concealed in the wall have to be in conduit?

I believe LAN cabling has to be installed in conduit only in Classified locations in accordance with Chapter 5. Generically speaking, LAN cabling does not have to be run inside of conduit unless it needs to be protected from damage. However, if you're talking about single conductor THHN electrical wiring then yes. But the latter is a different animal from LAN cabling.

"All wire" is too broad of a question.

Many commercial jobs require a pipe sleeved down the wall to a steel box but that is just a job spec as far as i know. I would provide a sleeve down with a drag line in it in all tel/data locations. The tel/data guys would come in behind us and install thier wires and jacks. You would have to check the plans and specs for the job to see if it is required in the bid package. As far as required all cat 5 is run down walls in residential in my area without pipe I feel it is a better job to sleeve it in emt or ent up to the attic/basement but I dont see where it would be required.

all wiring is broad and needs to be defined just alittle..but thermostate wire and phone cable and cat 5 can be ran through the joist..I would use the same safty measures as NMB..
