If you happen to have an electric stove, dryer or water heater in your home take a look at the name plate and you will likley find a 208 and a 240 rating.

Devices with line-to-neutral loads, such as the afore-mentioned stove and dryer, will still receive the appropriate 120v for those components.
In a dryer, for example, only the heater element is connected line-to-line; the timer and drum motors are connected line-to-neutral.
