I am under the assumption that Square D panels have a conductive paint.

What other, if any, Panel enclosures have a conductive enamel?

JJ

I like to remove the paint with a wire brush and sometimes use de-ox to ensure a good connection. I was told that square D enclosures had a special conductive paint that made that technique unnecessary.

I?m going to research it more. Feedback is welcome

Did the person who told you that have a bridge for sale also? :D
It is not conductive. Maybe the galvanized cans are what they are thinking about.

The person that told me that is highly knowledgeable. I must have misunderstood him.

I?m searching no avail as of yet. Thanks for the feedback!

It funny what you can read on meters from time to time.

I've heard the old expression that your read a through a panel, and everything between the device and panel, and not that I like the thought!
Here I'm looking for a broken circuit and still reading continuity!

Your nice clean ground is touching metal, and your thinking ?

You were told wrong.

Square D uses a standard electro-deposited epoxy paint, maybe this is why they thought it was conductive.

I sincerely wish I understood that sentence. :-?

I believe the Hindenburg was painted with conductive paint.
It was painted with thermite, better known as a rocket booster material, and simular to Cadweld shot. But yes - conductive due to aluminum, iron or other metals content.

I don't think panel paint is an insulator either. If a bare wire hits the painted enclosure, I'd put my money on seeing fireworks.

I guess conductive is a relative term.

Keep wire brushing!

I just checked one of my Square D panels with an ohm meter...

Test probes > Paint to paint = open
Paint to paint pressing hard = open
Bare metal screw to paint = open (also pressing hard)

Of course bare metal screw to bare metal screw = connection (Just to be scientific here)

Then I tested bare metal screw to various romex connectors on the side of the panel. These were installed without scraping any of the paint off, no wire brushing, etc.

Most romex connectors had continuity with the bare metal screw, some did not.

Maybe that conductive paint is what makes square D cost more. :D
