Does NEC allow to run a raceway for general 120/240 volt circuits (inside or passing through) a duct or chase being used as environmental air? (supply or return)
 
Inside a return duct. Is it possible to run EMT with compression fittings from a basement to an attic through the return duct, sealing the penetrations with duct seal or firestop?
