Conductors in same conduits ?

Hello Everyone,

I have one question:

Can we install conductors coming out of two separate service equipment enclosures in the same conduit ?

I am not sure that the NEC Article 300.3 below allows it.

300.3 Conductors.
(C) Conductors of Different Systems.
(1) 600 Volts, Nominal, or Less. Conductors of circuits rated 600 volts, nominal, or less, ac circuits, and dc circuits shall be permitted to occupy the same equipment wiring enclosure, cable, or raceway. All conductors shall have an insulation rating equal to at least the maximum circuit voltage applied to any conductor within the enclosure, cable, or raceway.

Thanks,

Peter Phi

You found the correct reference...

Hi bphgravity,

If the two service equipment disconnects are far apart, and someone is working on these conductors only shut-off one system without knowing or forgetting that there is another system running in the same conduit.

Should this be a safety concern since NEC allows it ?

Thanks again,

Peter

OSHA requires a written procedure for removing all sources of energy for lockout/tagout purposes.

Since this written procedure would tell anyone who had reason to get into this box that there were multiple power sources, and where to turn them off, I see no issue.

Most places would put some kind of label on the box noting the multiple power sources and where they can be turned off.
