I Was Informed, But Can Not Find In Code, That A 3-point Saddle Of Any Degree Counts For 180 Degrees Of A Conduit Run. Please Confirm.

I will confirm that this is incorrect.

The degrees of all the bends used in the 3-point saddle need to be added up to get the total degrees of bend.

For example I like to use 15-30-15 degree bends for saddles if I have the room, that would total 60 degrees. If I can't use 15-30-15 I will do as tkb said and use 22 1/2-45-22 1/2 degree bend and have a total of 90 degrees.

Take a look at 385.26 for the the number of bends allowed in EMT conduit.

Back in the old days, some JWs taught as a rule of thumb that an offset was equivalent to a 90 and a saddle was equivalent to two 90s based on wire pulling forces. I am certain that no scientific studies were ever done, it was just a rule of thumb and old wives' tales. The code doesn't say this.

Im seeing 90 deg max. Look for a place to put a "C" condulet if you are over just a bit

What do you mean by 90 degrees max? Would a 30-60-30 offset be a violation?

How do you make your saddles is the true question at hand. I am a maintenance guy, from what little I know, it's 360 max.. Am I wrong?

360 is the answer.Matters not how or direction.Often this rule is bit overkill on short runs but an inspector can force it and it does include box offsets.

You are correct...no more than 360? between pull points.
I prefer to stay under the 360? - but that is by choice.

Great tutorial here:

Greenlee has a page/file also...I'll see if I have it saved somewhere.

That was a comment to the 22.5 /45 /22.5 answer.
I think the NEC used to mention the max was "four quarter bends". I cant see a reasonable inspector turning someone down for an extra small kick or box offset.

Key word is "reasonable"
