conduit bodies as pull points

We have a 3" conduit run where we have used a 3" C for a fish point to install the rope, then pulled the conductors straight thru, does this satisfy the intention of 314.28-A.3. The conductors installed are less than the maximum fill, and the condulet used does not have any marking as far as maximum number and maximum size of conductors permitted. We checked the cut sheet and nothing is stated regarding this.

If the conductors are #4 or larger, and the "C" is not marked with the number of conductors permitted, then 314.28(A)(1) applies. This would require that the "C" have a cover at least 24" long.

I believe the intent of 314.28(A)(1) may well be the effective opening dimension. However, it is not written as such, nor does it state the calculated dimension shall be that of the cover. It simply states, "...the length of the box..." Is there somewhere else that specifies the length to be that of the cover, or opening? Otherwise, the length of the "body" meeting the requirement should suffice... or not?

Smart,
You are correct that the code section only specifies the length of the box, so if the C is 24" long it will meet the code. In the case of a conduit body this will result in a much smaller open than what you would have with a box.
Otherwise, the length of the "body" meeting the requirement should suffice... or not?
It will suffice for the purposes of the code rule, but not likely for the purposes of installing four 500kcmil in that 3" raceway.

Since we are in the Low voltage and limited energy section, I would hazard a guess that the original poster may be using this raceway for multiple runs of cctv coax or some other type of data transfer cables. In that case you are fine with a "C".

Yeh... and after the first experience of putting a pull loop at a 3-inch "C" for four 500's, I'll bet the person(s) will reconsider ever doing that again... even with a 24" long opening :D
