According to NEC code,
"314.29 Boxes, Conduit Bodies, and Handhole Enclosures to Be Accessible. Boxes, conduit bodies, and handhole enclosures shall be installed so that the wiring contained in them can be rendered accessible without removing any part of the building or, in underground circuits, without excavating sidewalks, paving, earth, or other substance that is to be used to establish the finished grade.
Exception: Listed boxes and handhole enclosures shall be
permitted where covered by gravel, light aggregate, or noncohesive
granulated soil if their location is effectively identified
and accessible for excavation."
We have a conduit run through a bridge deck where the low point is in the middle of the concrete deck slab. We originally have a form 7 "T" conduit body planned and being used as a drain at that point. According to the above referenced code requirement, this will not work as it is not accessable. We do not need access at this location as there is only a short run before the wiring becomes accessable at it's termination. Is there an alternative or would this be an "exception" to the rule?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
