Today at work i had to bend a offset in 3/4" emt to match a 4" emt offset. I

figured that the only way to do it and make it look good is to segment bend

it. Does anyone know the formulas to bend a segmented offset. Bending 90's

are easy but offsets are a little more involved. how would any of you suggest

doing this. I did it but it was half guessing and it looks good but if i knew the

formula it would make the next time much easier.

thanks

Myself I would just guesstimate it, 3/4" can be easily tweaked.

If you really want to segment bend it then as Jim suggested I would go my Ugly book.

It is available at most of the bookstore chains and a lot of supply houses.

Matching a 3/4 " conduit bend to a 4" conduit bend can be tricky. I don't believe that the formula for 3/4 bends will match the fromulas for a 4". If it were me and it has been in the past, I would measure center to center of the 4" conduit and use this as a starting point for the 3/4". Try bending from these marks by eye. There will be trial and error and maybe a "trophy pile "started but 3/4 is forgiving and you should be fine.Good luck!

If you have a piece of #10 solid,(cheaper than risking wasting a short piece of GEC) bend it to match the 4", then use a hickey to copy the piece of wire you now have to compare to. Other trick would be to use six foot ruler and transpose to a floor.Nice to have a welder's crayon in the tool box for laying stuff out on the floor to make matching concentric bends, or just to duplicate anything.

If you can calculate the radius of the bend aproximately, x 1.57 for pipe consumed in actual bend , then flip to have a reverse mirror image on second half...don't forget your no dog... don't want a dog's hind leg! Don't forget to allow for the erikson that you'll most likely have to use if this some after thought at a plant...

There one trick i did make wide sweep but i am not sure if you guys can get the picture how i did this without kinking this pipe [3/4 size ]

grab the empty steel 55 gallon drum the diam is pretty close to the 4 incher but match pretty nice with 3 inchers and what i do is lay the drum horzontal on the floor and take the stick [ emt pipe or rigid {i will tell a trick soon with ridge } ] and pull up the stick same time ya sit on the drum and roll it backward to match the curve as you need it [i know it will not be easy at first but once ya get a hang you will see why ]

for the rigid pipes do this little diffrent get the rigid stick line up near the edge of drum [ the end where it have not deheaded or uncutted and open ] and do this the same way with EMT but instad of backward you will have to go foward because you will pick up the long end as leverage and have a extra person to hold the drum as well.

I hope this trick can help ya to make a wide sweep ell on 3/4 inch

Merci , Marc

I use to use a foldng stick rule, bend it to the existing conduit and then lay it on the ground match that with the new install.
