Newbie to forum. Been doing electrical work in my house for about 35 years like remodels, dryer electrical installations, and even A/C wiring.
I am setting up a 100 amp subpanel in the basement from the main 200 amp panel in the garage. I am routing 3-3-3-5 copper wire across the garage attic and through the back wall of the garage, a wall which is shared with the dining room. To prevent any accidental damage to wire in the wall, I was going to run it through the appropriate size conduit for protection. (As I understand the code, romex can be run through conduit for protection taking into account normal capacity .)
It occurred to me, I could instead attach the conduit to the garage side of the wall rather than intra-wall, eliminating a lot of drywall repair.
Question: Can I run the conduit across the garage attic down into conduit attached to the garage wall and then 90 degree conduit through the header and into the basement? The conduit would stop after clearing the joist in the basement and I would just connect the 3-3-3-5 to the subpanel.
