Can you split a bushing which threads on a conduit connector? The installer then screws it onto the connector and super glues the split.

Re: CONDUIT INSULATING BUSHING

I'm sure that you can do anything ya want!

HOWEVER - if you cut a bushing, you destroy it's UL rating.

The NEC requires the use of RATED devices. Once CUT (even if re-glued) You have still altered, the tested, and approved UL rateing.

1) What is "rated"? I know what "approved", "identified" and "listed" are, but I have never heard of the term "rated".

2) What is your code reference to back up your statement?

Re: CONDUIT INSULATING BUSHING

300.4(F) does not require the bushing to be listed, so I highly doubt that these fittings are listed. With that said, I know of no code reference to prohibits such practice, although I think a person might be able to stretch 300.18(A) to require this fitting to be installed before the conductors are pulled.

Re: CONDUIT INSULATING BUSHING

Ryan,
The .6 sections of the raceway articles requires the use of a listed bushing.

Re: CONDUIT INSULATING BUSHING

Roger posted a picture of what I've called an "Ut Oh" bushing. They can be installed after the pull is installed. I havn't forgotten many bushings, but I have destroyed my share in the pull. Sawed through a few PVC ells with the rope too. Arlington needs to make something to fix that problem now.
