I am running 4 one inch emt pipes overhead. How far can I run it without a pulling L. So far there are no bends.

Re: conduit

As far as you want. There known as pipe racks.
If you exceed 360 degrees of bends then a j-box,pulling "C",or LB shall be installed. :p

Re: conduit

The U.S. Iron and Steel Institute used to have a 300 foot rule, but I can't tell you why that was. It never had the force of law, and was only a guideline. It's been at least 25 years since I last read about this. I think that the last time I used a C body was when I had an unusually long run and I wasn't sure I would have a piece of rope long enough (much like TKB joked).

No, you're referring to the 1994 Georgia Tech model. That is a whole chart, which is dependant on the size and type of raceway system. Most of the limits on that chart are around 300 feet also. I always pull a ground anyhow, so that's a moot issue for me.

Re: conduit

There is a free software program from the steel tube institure called GEMI, which is based on the georgia tech data. Most of the conduit runs over 300 feet require an equipment ground.

Re: conduit

I really don't like to exceed 200' only because of the fish tape lengths. I know you can blow or suck a mouse (No jokes) but a lot of times it is very tough because emt doesn't seal very good. Plus it benifits the customer if you haven't filled the conduit and they need a branch circuit later. You can always pull through a juction box on straight pulls.
