I have a higher ed building, with a whole-building backup generator on a single automatic transfer switch. Am I still going to need battery-powered emergency egress lighting? It would cost mucho dinero to add a separate ATS and add separate life safety panels, not to mention all of the additional branch circuits, 924 relays for identical control in classrooms, etc. Somehow I have gotten it in my head that separation is only required in healthcare facilities?
