Happy New Year to all...thank you for 15+ years of education I would not be able to get anywhere else.

Rehab of a 4-family - all had questionable wiring to the range hoods. The photo shows what is just above the grease filters. I know junction boxes are missing. Is there anything else? DSCF6839.JPG

As soon as I saw it I thought of a bath exhaust fan, that this space is one in the same and set aside for joints.
I'd look for the cut sheet on the internet.
Most appliances have this dedication for wire space.

Usually the supply wiring is separated from the "air flow". Supply terminations are often accessible by removing grease filter but are behind another cover once inside there.

Is that that factory hole for the NM cable, or did they drill it in the wrong spot?
Looks like they pulled the wires down into the hood area.

The wires are right above the filters.
Most the time there is no wiring there without needing to remove additional access panels, or is factory installed wiring and isn't just in free space but rather is neatly routed and secured as it passes through that space. I have never seen main supply wiring intended to be in this space.
